Of Nepali origin, Gurkha soldiers made a large part of the British Indian forces that fought for the empire in many places in India and beyond. Between the two world wars, they also fought in the Third Anglo Afghan War of 1919 and then participated in numerous campaigns on the northwest frontier to safeguard the border regions.</div>

In 1934 they were deployed in the restive Waziristan to control the resisting tribes, where they stayed until 1938. They saw and took part in action as Waziristan saw its most violent resistance against the British Indian Army under the leadership of Faqir of Ipi, a charismatic local cleric.</div>

Many army chiefs and also the British Prince Harry have praised the Gurkhas for their courage and bravery. After the end of the Nepalese war and signing of the treaty, many Gurkha soldiers were sent to Indian as well as British army and many of them fought bravely during the Second World War. The brave Nepali soldiers serving in the foreign land of British are known as the British Gurkhas. Born on August 1, 1918, Gaje Ghale served as Hon. Captain in the 5th Royal Gurkha Rifles unit in the British Indian Army during the World War II. Originally from Barpak VDC in <a href="http://bossnepal.com/ancient-gorkha/">Gorkha</a> district in Nepal, he served in army from 1936 to 1964 and died at the age of 81 on March 28, 2000.</div>

On the exterior, the Gurkhas are disarmingly quiet, peaceful, and always seen bearing a wide smile. But when someone comes threatening down their doors, their offensive demeanor and sharp khukuris are enough to send the biggest of adversaries into retreat. The Great Britain’s East India Company was one of the first to witness the wrath of enraged Gurkhas. The conflict ended with the British hastily striking a peace deal with them, and having realized their mighty, they started recruiting the Gurkhas into the British force.
