Mt. Everest is called ‘Sagarmatha’ in Nepali. This translates to ‘goddess of the sky’. Tibetans and Sherpas call this mighty peak ‘Chomolungma’, which translates to ‘mother goddess of the earth’. The number of people to have attempted this peak is 4000 approximately, however, till date; only 660 expeditioners successfully summited this great peak. 142 people died trying to climb this mother of all peaks and with that, Mt. Everest is approximately 60 million years old and still going strong. And to add to this, three countries: Nepal, Tibet and India are visible from this peak. Despite the success, failures and deaths this peak has caused, it continues to attract the brave and bold to its summit.
